Professional mold testing is an essential first step in resolving contamination issues. While mold can grow in any damp or moist environment, it isn’t always easily detectable. At Natural Home Solutions, we use non-destructive testing that detects contaminants even when they’re hidden within walls, ceilings, or other areas. Types of Mold Testing We Provide

Our mold assessment strategies vary depending on your requirements.

ATP Testing

ATP mold testing is a rapid method for detecting the presence of mold, bacteria, and other microorganisms on surfaces. The test measures the amount of adenosine triphosphate, a molecule found in all living cells. When a test confirms ATP on a surface, it indicates that there is biological contamination present.

As all living cells release adenosine triphosphate, an ATP test can’t definitively identify mold. It quickly confirms the presence of biological contaminants. This helps us assess the need for more comprehensive testing. ATP testing provides these additional benefits:

It’s inexpensive, easy to use, and provides rapid results.
The testing process provides results for hard, soft, and other surfaces.
It is sensitive enough to detect low biological contamination levels.

Air Testing

When we conduct air testing, we use sampling pumps, spore traps, or other specialized equipment. We obtain outdoor and indoor air samples and forward them to a third-party testing facility for assessment.

The air testing process takes more time than an ATP test, but it provides more comprehensive results. Lab technicians evaluate and compare indoor and outdoor samples. They produce a printout that provides a clear picture of contamination on a given day, and they identify its source. Air testing is a more costly procedure, but it offers these benefits.

It conclusively identifies mold spores.
It determines the severity of a mold contamination problem.
It identifies the source of mold growth (construction, animals, etc.)
It can evaluate and monitor remediation effectiveness.

Tape Test

When conducting a tape test, we carefully press a clear adhesive tape to a potentially contaminated surface. This process obtains mold samples which we submit to an independent lab for a professional assessment. As with air tests, a tape test provides similar results as an air test.

Kitchen Testing Limitations

We sometimes encounter limitations when testing a kitchen environment. Testing can’t always distinguish between mold and biological substances released into the air during cooking. While these challenges can interfere with some test results, we can still document elevated readings enough to identify a contamination problem.
